Stronger Than Me-Amy Winehouse Cover
I really think I should just start an Amy Winehouse tribute band. I love all her songs and am just constantly playing her music. Also, I can do my hair like she wore hers. So there’s that.
CRAZY-GNARLS BARKLEY COVER
I generally don’t make videos because I don’t like the way I look when I sing, but this was made as a joke for my friend, who hates the song, but maybe some of you won’t. Also, here’s the [far superior] original.
DON’T THINK TWICE, IT’S ALRIGHT-BOB DYLAN COVER
This is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs. I got on the Dylan train a bit later than I should have, and discovered this song after it was featured on an episode of Mad Men. I was quickly struck by the lyrics and knew I had to learn it. I got pretty upset after hearing that Ke$ha would be covering the song on an upcoming tribute album so I decided to record my own version (even though it doesn’t at all do it justice.) Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
WHERE WILL YOU BE-SARA WATKINS COVER
I had the privilege of seeing A Prairie Home Companion in Tuscaloosa earlier this month, and one of the artists traveling on the tour was Sara Watkins. (For those of you who aren’t familiar with a Prairie Home, go here.) I’ve seen Ms. Watkins live once before, on the Nickel Creek Farewell Tour, however, once Nickel Creek parted ways, I became quite familiar with Chris Thile’s solo work at the expense of the other two that made up the trio. However, near the end of Prairie Home’s show, Sara performed this beautiful song while playing a ukulele. I was especially struck by the lyrics and knew I had to cover it, so here it is-a product of a night with no sleep. Don’t forget to listen to the original!
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS-KID CUDI COVER
This is only a piece of the song, recorded on my friend’s iPhone while we were the only two people in this particular restaurant. Hopefully I can post a full version soon.
GONE GONE GONE-EVERLY BROTHERS COVER
This song was originally by the Everly Brothers but was most recently heard Alison Krauss & Robert Plant’s album Raising Sand, which as I’ve said before is absolutely amazing (it’s undoubtedly in my Top 10 favorite albums.) I’m drawn to this song because of how classic the lyrics are-it really represents the country twang the Everly Brothers infused in their style of rock & roll. Plus, who doesn’t love a breakup song that ISN’T about how sad the singer is?
LOVE GAME-LADY GAGA COVER
This was filmed at an open mic night at Bo’s Bar in Tuscaloosa. I generally do this song when there’s a big group of people, just because acoustic Lady Gaga is unexpected (and I think people find it funny hearing someone sing about disco sticks.)
One Game Longer-original
This is one that I wrote and recorded a few years back. Not my favorite, but I think it’s actually pretty catchy, so I thought I’d share.

TEENAGE DREAM vs. KIDS (KATY PERRY & MGMT COVER)
So I’m doing something a bit differently today. Instead of just covering a song, I decided to do a mash up of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and MGMT’s Kids. They really don’t have anything to do with each other, besides the fact that everytime I heard Teenage Dream, I’d always hum the Kids loop in my head, so I figured I might as well make one song out of them.
This could either be pretty cool or a total miss, and I’m not sure which one it will qualify under. Let me know what you think!
